Still Golden: How the Media Shrugs Off Trump’s Decline

During the 2024 presidential campaign, I often joked that the election should be decided by simply having Joe Biden run a foot race against Donald Trump and living with the results. While I’m 100 percent confident Biden would have won that race, I’m also 100 percent confident he would’ve been accused of injecting harvested children’s blood to help him cheat. But I digress.

One old man was ousted for another, but you wouldn’t know it based on the media’s double standard. Throughout his presidency, Joe Biden was plagued by relentless coverage questioning whether he was too old for the job. Every literal misstep. Every stutter that led to a gaffe. Every dazed or confused look. It all generated clicks and, in the end, played a role in dragging down Harris’ campaign while helping pave the way for Trump’s return to the presidency.

Don “Old” Trump

Donald Trump is old, and with Biden out of the picture, it’s becoming more obvious by the day. His rambling speeches have slowed, his hair is thinner and wirier, and his makeup is now so aggressively orange you wonder if your TV’s saturation needs adjusting. He’s had visible bruises on his hands for months, but the press mostly shrugged until recently, when Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt explained they were the result of an aspirin regimen and too many handshakes. A questionable explanation.

Later, Leavitt reported that the president had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, responding to a viral image showing Trump with visibly swollen ankles. Given how tight-lipped Trump’s team has been about his health for the last decade, some suspect this info is only now being shared as a distraction from the mounting pressure on the White House to release the Epstein Files.

Who Buys Groceries Anymore?

Remember that old-fashioned word people used to describe their weekly supply of food and necessities? Oh, that’s right—you probably do, because you’re not an out-of-touch billionaire who thinks the word groceries is an old-fashioned term.

Trump has repeatedly claimed that groceries is an old-fashioned term, and the press has mostly met it with a collective shrug. After all the relentless coverage of rising prices during the 2024 campaign, how is the media ignoring not only the continuing surge in the cost of living, but also the sheer absurdity of Trump suggesting that Americans don’t use the word groceries anymore? It’s journalistic malpractice.

Pet Projects of a Fading President

While ICE raids suburban neighborhoods and families are being crushed by his senseless tariffs, Trump’s mind is elsewhere. Now that his “Big Beautiful Bill” has been signed into law, there’s little left he can accomplish legislatively, so these days he seems more concerned with crown molding than with governing the country.

Recently, when asked about Epstein, he blasted the reporter for even bringing it up—yet moments later, he made time to discuss adding more tacky gold leaf to the corners of the room. While Trump tries to project control, it’s clear he’s just there to cut ribbons while people like Stephen Miller pull the strings.

Lately, Trump’s pet projects have centered on redecorating. As a new board member of the Kennedy Center, he’s taken it upon himself to remodel the venue and make sure the performances aren’t “too woke.” Just weeks ago, he planted two massive American flags on the White House lawn; now he’s preparing to oversee construction of a $200 million White House ballroom he’ll almost certainly name after himself.

The ceremonial projects won’t stop there. As Trump continues to fade, expect more photo ops and self-serving projects to keep him occupied while the country burns.

Legacy in Limbo

Will the press ever give Trump the “Biden treatment”? Probably not. Trump has been their cash cow for the last decade, and with 2028 fast approaching, the media isn’t about to let a few erratic rants and swollen ankles stop them from squeezing every last drop out of the big orange.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, only time will tell how the media handles the remainder of Trump’s term. The only hope is that the walls really are closing in—and that the press finally decides to take notice. The Epstein Files debacle has fractured Trump’s coalition like never before, and it will be fascinating to watch how both Trump—and the media—choose to handle the fallout in the coming months.

Will the press finally tarnish the legacy of their favorite president to save their own? Don’t count on it.
